A strong love for tea, nature, and Zen lead to the inspiration of this unique series. Making my first teapot was challenging, yet the process was very satisfying. I continue to explore the endless possibilities. It is so rewarding when an experiment produces an unexpected and beautiful outcome. I make the effort to create unique pieces, encouraging and allowing the teapots to take on their own identities. This series continues to evolve, directed and influenced by nature’s effortless beauty and wisdom. The endless possibilities of shape, texture, color, are my greatest teachers. During the creative process, I have a very clear intention to explore and walk the line where art meets functionality. Ultimately, I want the people who hold my work in their hands to see these teapots as another combination of elements and materials that nature put together. My hands are tools receiving natures instructions.

The mindfulness required in the motions of preparing and pouring a single cup of tea is a form of moving meditation. If we are fully present during these motions, the tea is brewed correctly, served gracefully, and enjoyed. If we are not present during the motions, the tea is brewed incorrectly and or drunk without appreciation.

I mark my work with the kanji symbol Tsutsumi. The definition of this is a dyke, dam, or bank. These three things have one thing in common, they hold water. I use the symbol metaphorically. Do teapots also hold water?
